KUCHING (Jan 8): The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) has stepped up road safety enforcement through a series of integrated operations in Kuching and Serian.
During ‘Ops Pemandu Warga Asing’ in the MJC Batu Kawa area on Wednesday, officers stopped a commercial van for inspection.
In a statement on Facebook, JPJ Sarawak said the foreign driver failed to produce a valid Class D (CDL) driving licence and a Class G vocational licence (GDL), offences under the Road Transport Act 1987.
Officers subsequently seized the vehicle for further action.
In Serian, JPJ personnel carried out daily patrols and monitoring along Jalan Kuching–Serian and the Kuching Outer Ring Road to Samarahan, inspecting 93 commercial and private vehicles.
The checks uncovered offences including poor vehicle maintenance, unauthorised modifications and other technical violations.
JPJ Sarawak said enforcement activities will continue from time to time to enhance road safety and ensure compliance.
The department also urged the public to report illegal driving activities — particularly involving foreign nationals — and to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and meet approved specifications.
