KUCHING (March 13): The Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) hosted 37 orphans from the Lembaga Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Sarawak (Peryatim) at a breaking-of-fast event held in conjunction with a gathering with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at a leading hotel here on Sunday night.
The event began with SMA presenting a RM10,000 contribution to Peryatim to help support the institution’s operational expenses.
The children also received “duit raya” (festive monetary gifts) from the authority.
Abang Johari, who also serves as chairman of SMA, witnessed the presentation of the contribution by SMA general manager Datuk Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng to Peryatim chief executive officer Siti Hatizah Abg Sebit.
Following the presentation ceremony, the premier and SMA staff listened to the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran delivered by bilal Ustaz Muhamad Addaha Zaidi while awaiting the time to break fast.
After breaking fast, Abang Johari joined SMA staff in performing the Maghrib, Isyak and sunat Tarawih prayers before the event concluded with a “moreh” (supper).
Established under Section 3 of the Sarawak Multimedia Authority Ordinance 2017, SMA is tasked with leading, overseeing and facilitating the implementation of communications and multimedia development, as well as the state’s digital economy initiatives.
Among those present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, SMA board member Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri George Chan Hong Nam and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Wira Lorna Enan Muloon Chan.
