KUCHING (Aug 18): Sarawak has offered to contribute about 50 per cent of the total estimated cost of organising the South East Asia Games (SEA Games) 2027, said federal Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh.

She said Sarawak was one of the three states that offered assistance to organise the event, alongside Sabah and Penang.

“On the status of organising the SEA Games, our Ministry have completed our papers to be reviewed by other related ministries such as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy so that they can provide us with their feedbacks. The papers will then be presented in the Cabinet for decision-making.

“So far, three states offered assistance in organising (SEA Games); Sarawak, Sabah and Penang. Sarawak offered to contribute about 50 per cent of the total estimated cost of organising the event,” she said when met by reporters after her visit at the Sarawak Squash Centre in Petra Jaya here this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Yeoh said the state has the capabilities in organising international sporting events.

This, she added, was proven with last night’s opening ceremony of the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma).

“With Sarawak fully investing in sporting facilities and athlete development, Sarawak can be seen as a natural sporting venue for Malaysia.

“So if there’s any plans about organising sporting events, Sarawak can be considered,” she said.

Yeoh was accompanied by state Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu during her visit.
