KUCHING: Sarawak has rolled out its first comprehensive statewide cybersecurity strategy, comprising 18 initiatives to strengthen the security and resilience of its growing digital ecosystem.

The five-year Sarawak Cybersecurity Strategy and Roadmap (SCSR) 2030 was launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2026 here today (Oct 5).

The launch at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) was also witnessed by Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) general manager Datuk Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng and deputy general manager Dr Suhaila Jaffar.

According to SMA, the roadmap provides a coordinated approach to strengthening cybersecurity capabilities, resilience and digital trust across the state.

It is built around five pillars covering the protection of strategic information assets; people, businesses and communities; talent development; governance and operational frameworks; and strategic collaboration.

SMA said the strategy recognises cybersecurity as an integral part of Sarawak’s digital transformation and economic development.

As digital adoption expands, it said security, resilience and trust are increasingly important to sustain digital services, support innovation and investment, and maintain public confidence.

“Building a secure digital Sarawak is not something the government can do alone. It requires the collective effort of government, businesses and communities working together.

“Every secure system, every cyber-aware business, and every informed citizen contributes towards strengthening Sarawak’s digital resilience and safeguarding our shared digital future,” it said.

SCSR 2030 brings together the government, state-owned enterprises, critical infrastructure operators, businesses, academia and communities under a common statewide approach to cybersecurity.

SMA said the strategy is also aimed at strengthening cybersecurity preparedness and public confidence in digital services as Sarawak works towards becoming a leading digital economy in the region.
