KUCHING (Jan 12): Sarawak posted RM13.5 billion in revenue for 2025, as at the closing of financial statement in December.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, in stating this, said the latest figure exceeded the one announced during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting at the end of last year.
“The RM13.01 billion was the estimated revenue I mentioned in the state budget.
“However, when the accounts were closed in December, additional revenue was recorded, bringing the total to RM13.5 billion,” he told reporters at the launch of the free school bus and ‘Smart Classroom’ programmes here on Monday.
On the revenue growth, Abang Johari viewed it as reflecting Sarawak’s stable and strong economic position, the result of prudent financial management and sustained economic growth.
He also hailed political stability and sound economic governance as key factors in enabling Sarawak to continue generating revenue higher than the initial projections.
“The rise in state revenue allows the Sarawak government to implement various initiatives for the people without burdening the state’s finances.”
Among the main initiatives that could proceed, according to the Premier, are free education, improvements to the public transport system, and the development of smart infrastructure that provide long-term benefits to both the people and the state.
