KUCHING, Dec 9: The Sarawak government places significant emphasis on the development of sports facilities across the State as a communal platform to discover and hone talents to produce champions at both domestic and international levels, in alignment with Sarawak’s broader development agenda to position itself as a sports powerhouse.

Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stressed the importance of Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and Sarawak Sports Council (MSN Sarawak) in spearheading and implementing the sports development agenda in Sarawak.

“This agenda is important in nurturing the talents and potential of young people in various sports and games.

“Apart from giving them opportunities and support, SSC and MSN Sarawak play a crucial role in polishing the talents of young athletes to become champions at not only the national and regional levels but international level,” he said when addressing the SSC and MSN Sarawak appreciation night at Hikmah Exchange last night (Dec 8).

Abdul Karim acknowledged that the success achieved by Sarawakian athletes and sports champions globally is a testament to the dedicated efforts of SSC and MSN Sarawak over the years.

“There is an old saying that goes ‘When there is unity, there is always victory’. This matter is important to us in Sarawak because of the role of sports and games in fostering the spirit of unity and brotherhood among local communities of various ethnicities, races, and religions,” he highlighted.

Positioning sports and recreational activities as the foundation for instilling a spirit of healthy living and interaction among the multi-racial community in Bumi Kenyalang, Abdul Karim encouraged the young generation to engage in sports for both physical and mental well-being.

“We also hope that this event can inspire all employees in both agencies to continue working hard and redouble their efforts in implementing the sports development agenda in Sarawak,” he urged.
