KUCHING (Nov 30): Sarawak emerged as the overall champion in the 39th National SJKC Chinese Language Speech and Written Test Competition held here on Saturday.
Leading the charge for Sarawak were Boris Chan Bo who won the Speech category, and Jonathan Ling How Yew who topped the Written Test category.
In the Speech category, Ong Yee Xuan and Lim Jay Ween, both from Kedah, secured the first and second runners-up positions, respectively.
They were followed by Lengnart Goh Tung Kai from Negeri Sembilan in fourth place and Lai You Ning from Selangor in fifth.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Lim En Qi from Johor, Kimberly Ng (Perak), Ethan Wong Jun Siang (Perak), Ng Ruiz (Negeri Sembilan), and Goh Rui Xi (Terengganu).
Kedah was named the overall champion for this category.
For the Written Test, Angel Tan Qian Er from Sarawak finished as the first runner-up, followed by Koo Le Chian from Perak (third), Ooi Ju Xin from Kuala Lumpur (fourth), and Choo Wen Jing from Kuala Lumpur (fifth).
Kuala Lumpur was the overall champion for this category.
A total of 28 pupils competed in the Speech category, while 70 took part in the Written Test category.
Participants represented all 11 states in Peninsular Malaysia, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, as well as Sabah and Sarawak.
This annual competition aims to inspire pupils from Chinese-aided primary school to excel in learning the Chinese language and provides a platform for them to showcase their linguistic skills and critical thinking abilities.
This year’s event marked the first time Sarawak has hosted the competition in 16 years.
