The Sarawak squad celebrates at the 61st Milo–NSC–MAS Malaysia Age Group (MAG) Water Polo Championships 2026 at the Negeri Sembilan Aquatic Centre.

KUCHING (Feb 12) Sarawak captured the Under-21 Boy’s title and finished third in the girl’s event at the 61st Milo–NSC–MAS Malaysia Age Group (MAG) Water Polo Championships held at the Negeri Sembilan Aquatic Centre.

The boy’s team produced a steady three-day campaign from Feb 6 to 8, securing decisive wins in key matches to finish top of the standings.

Among their standout results was a 17–8 victory over Selangor followed by a 15–11 win against Negeri Sembilan and an 18–4 defeat of Kuala Lumpur.

Five Sarawak players received ‘Match Most Valuable Player (MVP)’ honours during the tournament, namely Presley Phang Yi Qi, Casper Tan Ting Fung, Lavinia Clarissa Ascotia, Jay Vikneswaran and Bryan Lee Ming Yik.

The Sarawak U-21 girls battled through a series of closely contested matches against Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang.

Head coach Voon Yong Hui said the results were encouraging as the squad forms the core of the state’s preparations for this year’s Malaysia Games (Sukma) to be held in Selangor.

“This is the Sukma team. We should have two medals for this year’s Sukma,” he said.

The MAG tournament is a major fixture on the national water polo calendar and attracted teams from Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Perak and Sarawak.
