KUCHING (Nov 19): Malaysian singer Dato Jamal Abdillah will be among the performers for the ‘Soul Concert’ to be staged in Kapit this Dec 2, in connection with Sarawak Youth Day 2023.
In announcing this, the Deputy Minister I for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu also says the event is set to attract tourists to Kapit, which is now accessible by land transport.
Apart from Jamal, other acts will be Zaki Yamani, Dewi Seriestha, Ricky Anderson, Ramles Walter, and Firdaus Materang.
“Besides the concert, which will be a big attraction, the unveiling of a big flag made from beads is set to enter the Malaysia Book of Records,” he said during the press conference here on Friday evening, in launching the state-level Youth Day event.
Other activities lined up would be programmes based on the ‘7K’ concept encompassing culture, sports, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, creativity, and spirituality, in line with the approaches outlined in the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, he said.
“The aim is to instil in youths the spirit of competition, equipping them to face challenges in future nation-building endeavours.
“At the same time, the event will function as a platform for the government to unearth potential and unique talents from Sarawak.
“It will also be a forum for the government to express its appreciation for the success, sacrifices and contributions of the youths towards state development,” said Rentap.
Themed ‘Belia Maju Sarawak Makmur’ (Youths Succeed, Sarawak Prospers), the event would be taking place at Kapit Civic Centre and Lily Pond from Dec 1 to 3.
Among the recreational activities arranged would be the Colourful Fun Run, FLEX (Body Building and Aerodance), rope-jumping, sepak takraw and badminton challenges, meet-and-greet sessions with Sarawak athletes, and Forest eSport (Mobile Legend and FIFA).
Marketplace platforms like Belia × Bazaar Niaga Usahawan (BBNU); E-Kedey (a TikTok online mall); HBS Lucky Dip (a lucky draw); Jobs and Career Expo; ‘Excellent in Life-Improvement Through Education’ (ELITE) talk; and karaoke singing competition would also be held.
The Sarawak Youth Awards 2023 presentation would be the highlight of the event, said Rentap.
