KUCHING (Feb 11): Sarawak is home to many talented individuals, who can shine on the global stage if given the right platform and support.

According to Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan, many Sarawakian youths are gifted not only in music and the performing arts, but also in sports.

“We need to polish them and give them the platform for them to shine globally.

“We also have talented individuals who have represented the state in events such as Sarawak Games (SukSar) and Malaysia Games (Sukma),” he said in his speech for the launch of Aleysha Shareef van der Horst’s first single at the ‘Star on Stage’ here on yesterday.

Snowdan then congratulated Aleysha for her outstanding achievement at the World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2024.

“She won a gold medal for her solo performance, and a bronze medal for her duet performance.

“She was also crowned ‘Division Champion’ in the Junior category.

“This achievement is something that we are extremely proud of, not only for her family, but for all Sarawakians,” he said.

Snowdan also emphasised the ministry’s commitment to providing opportunities for young talents to develop through various platforms, collaborations and strategic initiatives – all meant to ensure that the arts, music and creativity here would continue to gain global recognition.
