KUCHING, March 19: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has called on all Sarawakians to stand firmly behind the State leadership in defending and safeguarding Sarawak’s rights as a founding partner of the Federation of Malaysia.

In Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Uggah said that the celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which marks the start of Syawal, carries a deeper meaning beyond religious observance, symbolising unity, forgiveness, and togetherness among the state’s multiracial and multi-religious communities.

“The unity and diversity in Sarawak form a strong foundation for harmony, reflecting the spirit of ‘segulai sejalai’, which emphasizes collective effort and togetherness in building our future.

“In Sarawak, this spirit is visible in the way people of different races and religions visit one another, share festive dishes, and celebrate as one large family. Hari Raya is not only a time for joy and forgiveness but also a moment to reflect on who we are, where we come from, and what we must protect,” he said in his 2026 Hari Raya Aidilfitri message today.

Uggah further stressed that, as one of Malaysia’s founding partners, Sarawak’s autonomy and dignity are clearly enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

He urged Sarawakians to remain united in supporting efforts to uphold the State’s rights, emphasising that these measures are not mere administrative matters but steps toward justice and safeguarding the future of coming generations.

“These rights were never granted, they are part of the very foundation of Malaysia itself. When we stand together, our voice grows stronger and clearer. This festive season, let us strengthen our unity and stand firmly with our State leadership,” he said. — DayakDaily
