MIRI, April 21: Free shuttle bus services will be provided to participants and the public as road closures and diversions are enforced for the Fun Walk on April 26, held in conjunction with the Sarawakku Sayang Programme 2026 in Miri.
Miri District Police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the initiative is aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow and reducing congestion during the event, which is expected to draw large crowds.
He said the Fun Walk, scheduled to begin at 6.30am and end around 9am, will start and finish at the Miri Open Stadium, with several main roads in the city centre temporarily closed or diverted.
“Only vehicles with passes and stickers will be allowed entry under traffic control supervision.
“To facilitate participants and the public, free shuttle bus services will operate from designated parking areas at Boulevard Commercial Centre and the Pelita Tunku area to the Miri Indoor Stadium bus stop,” he said in a statement today.
The schedule of the free shuttle bus to be provided for Fun Walk participants and public to Sarawakku Sayang programme in Miri from April 24 to 26.Among the roads involved in the Fun Walk route are Jalan Bintang, Bulatan Kipas, Jalan Kipas, Jalan Sylvia, Jalan Merbau, Jalan North Yu Seng and Jalan Merpati, before returning to the stadium.
Roads affected by temporary closures and traffic diversions include Jalan Bintang, Bulatan Kipas, exit to Masjid At-Taqwa and multiple junctions along Jalan Persekutuan, Jalan Merdu, Jalan Post, Jalan Sylvia, Jalan North Yu Seng and Jalan Masjid.
Mohd Farhan said traffic personnel will be deployed at strategic locations to manage traffic flow and ensure the safety of participants and road users.
“Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes such as Jalan Krokop, Jalan Jee Foh and Jalan Pujut, while avoiding Jalan Sukan during the programme,” he urged.
Participants and public are encouraged to arrive early or use the designated parking areas and shuttle services to minimise congestion near the event venue.
The Sarawakku Sayang Programme 2026 (Miri Division) will run from April 24 to 26, with the official opening ceremony scheduled for April 25 at 10.30am at Miri Open Stadium. No road closures will be implemented for events on earlier days, as traffic control will be managed by police personnel.
