SARIKEI (Jan 9): Firefighters are closely monitoring several flood-prone areas in Sarikei following continuous rainfall in the district.
Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Station Chief Arrahman Chik said the focus is on low-lying areas that are frequently affected by floods.
“Among the areas closely monitored by Bomba are Wong Batang, Ulu Sarikei, Sungai Kubang in Ulu Sarikei, Teluk Mulong in Ulu Sarikei, and Sungai Rian in Ulu Sarikei,” he said in a statement.
Arrahman added that monitoring conducted from 11.30am to 12.30pm today found river water levels to be under control.
“Nevertheless, residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant due to the ongoing rainfall trend,” he said.
He also reminded residents in high-risk areas to keep important items and documents in safe locations.
“We urge residents to contact Bomba immediately if their homes are flooded and to move to safe locations without delay.
“The department will continue monitoring these high-risk areas to ensure everyone’s safety,” Arrahman added.
