KUCHING, 24 September: All primary and secondary schools under the supervision of the Regional Education Office (PPD) Serial closed while today following the Air Pollution Index (IPU) readings recorded up to 10 pm yesterday.

The State Education Department (JPN) of Sarawak announced that following the closure, the Teaching and Learning at Home (PdPR) session will be conducted in accordance with guidelines for disaster management teaching and learning.

"For schools located near districts with IPU readings exceeding 200, principals and principals may consider the implementation of PdPR taking into account health and safety factors for students.

"If the IPU reading trend shows a decline to below 200 levels, schools can make preparations for school reopening", the statement said.

JPN Sarawak also reminded schools to adhere to standard operating procedures related to school management in times of emergencies and prioritize the health and safety of students and teachers.

All educational institutions under JPN Sarawak are also advised to constantly monitor IPU readings through the Environment Department's Water Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) Portal.

The educational institutions are also asked to adhere to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health from time to time to ensure the health, safety and well-being of students and all education citizens is always maintained.
