SIBU (Jan 6): Councillor Sean Wong said yesterday he was deeply touched and humbled by the tributes written in remembrance of his late father Datuk Andrew Wong.
He described them as a reflection of the values his father lived by and the impact of his life beyond the family.
“They (tributes) are a reminder not only of what he had achieved, but of the values that he lived by: integrity, perseverance, and an unwavering belief in education as a force for good.
“For our family, these tributes are both a comfort and a responsibility. They affirm that my father’s life had meaning beyond our home, and that his work continues to benefit many whom he never personally knew,” said Sean in a statement.
The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) official added that while he might not walk the same path as that of his father, the most important thing was to carry forward the spirit behind the latter’s work.
“No one can truly replace or replicate my father. He belonged to a unique moment in Sarawak’s history and answered the needs of his time with courage and vision.
“For now, I believe the most important thing is to carry forward the spirit behind his work—the commitment to service, to contributions, and to doing what one can for society.
“If I could uphold those principles in my own way, then I believe I would be honouring his legacy.”
Sean added that his father had instilled in the family the belief of legacy being defined not by status or accolades, but by a sense of duty.
“This is a principle that continues to influence me,” he said.
