Selangau man found dead believed to have been struck by lighting

SIBU (Aug 15): A 54-year-old man was found dead in his garden near Ladang Meruan Dijih in Selangau on Tuesday, believed to have been struck by lightning.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the deceased has been identified as Ricky Benard.

“He was found unconscious by his workers at the scene and the incident is believed to have occurred around 4pm in the deceased’s private garden,” he said in a statement today.

He said the man was sent to Selangau Health Clinic by his employees, but was confirmed dead by medical officers.

Rizal said the deceased’s 37-year-old wife lodged the police report regarding her husband’s death later that evening.

He said an initial police investigation found no criminal element that caused the man’s death, and the case has been classified as sudden death.
