MIRI (Jan 14): A senior citizen in Batu Niah endured over 30 minutes dangling upside after his leg became caught in a langsat tree at his orchard following a slip this morning.
Batu Niah fire station chief Rary Binjie told The Borneo Post that the victim, 72, was climbing the tree to harvest the fruits when he lost his footing.
“Unable to free himself, the victim shouted for help for about half an hour before his cries were heard by another farm owner, who happened to be tending to his own orchard nearby,” he said.
Rary said acting on a call at 10.02am, the station rushed a team to the scene, located about 6km away, to rescue the senior citizen.
“After assessing the situation, the rescuers took several minutes to free the victim and bring him safely down from the tree.
“He sustained only minor injuries to his leg,” he said, adding the team then escorted the senior citizen back home.
