KUCHING, Dec 27: The remand order for two men suspected of being involved in a murder case at an apartment in Sungai Tapang has been extended for five days starting today until Jan 1, 2026.

In a TVS report, Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali approved the remand extension for both suspects to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The two suspects were arrested at around 11.06pm at MJC Batu Kawa on Dec 20.

They were initially remanded for seven days from Dec 21 until today before being brought to the Magistrate’s Court at around 9am for the remand extension request.

Both suspects appeared in court in handcuffs.

If convicted, the suspects may face punishment under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years and not less than 12 strokes of the cane, or the death penalty.

On Dec 1, 2024, a 22-year-old local man was found lying in a room of the apartment unit with slash wounds on his body. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

To date, a total of 16 individuals have been detained to assist in the investigation.
