KUCHING, Jan 13: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg reflected on the loss of his late wife today while addressing civil servants at the Majlis Amanat Perdana Premier Sarawak 2026 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
He recalled the unwavering support she had given him in previous years.
“In previous years, I had a woman by my side who gave me strength and unwavering support. Last year, she has returned to the mercy of Allah,” he recalled.
Even in her absence, Abang Johari highlighted the continuing support of his family.
“Although she is no longer with me, my family continues to stand behind me, supporting not just me, but all Sarawakians.
“Today, my child stands with me, carrying forward her mother’s legacy,” he said.
The Premier emphasised that Sarawak’s achievements under his leadership were never his alone. He said they were the successes of Sarawak, made possible by the unity and dedication of its people.
He also used the occasion to outline the State’s future direction, calling on civil servants to uphold unity, dedication, and public service to drive Sarawak’s continued growth and development.
The emotional address offered a rare glimpse of the personal side of a leader widely recognised for his policy initiatives and commitment to Sarawak’s progress. — DayakDaily
