SIBU (Dec 7): An estimated 10,000 participants are expected to join the annual Christmas procession here this coming Saturday.

The event is organised by the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) Sibu branch, with the Roman Catholic Church serving as this year’s host.

ACS Sobu branch chairman, Archdeacon Jose Jol Endru, expressed hope for good weather on the day.

“I believe that if the weather is favourable, even more participants will join, just like last year,” he said after leading a Christmas carolling event at Rumah Grace Itun Upo in Sungai Salim on Saturday night.

More than 50 carollers from the church participated in the annual gathering.

Jose, who is also the Vicar of St John’s Anglican Church, said participants are requested to gather at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 from 5pm, with the procession scheduled to begin at 7pm.

The route will start at the same venue and pass through several streets in the town centre.

Last year’s procession began at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang and proceeded through Jalan Bujang Suntong, Jalan Pulau, Jalan Channel, Jalan Mission, Jalan Kampung Nyabor, Jalan Ramin, Jalan Morshidi Sidek, Jalan Sanyan, before returning to the square and ending on Jalan Kampung Nyabor in front of the WTK building.

Separately, Jose said St John’s Anglican Church Sibu will perform at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 on Dec 19 from 7pm to 9pm, as part of the Christmas Carnival organised by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

“We are truly honoured to be invited by SMC to perform, and we extend our highest appreciation for this opportunity,” he added.
