SIBU (Aug 17): The police have arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in a snatch incident that occurred at Jalan Tong Sang here on Aug 12.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the first suspect, aged 28, was picked up at 8.10pm on the day of the incident.

“Follow-up operation led to the arrest of a second suspect, aged 26.

“Both were brought to the police station for further investigation,” he said in a statement.

“A motorcycle was also seized from the suspect, together with a helmet, two mobile phones and several bank cards,” he said, adding that both suspects are undergoing remand for seven days pending further probe.

The case, he said, would be investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code where if convicted, the offenders could face up to 20 years in jail and also be subject to whipping.

In that Aug 12 incident, a woman victim lodged a report at 8.26am claiming that a male motorcyclist, clad in black long-sleeve shirt, had snatched her handbag while she was walking from Jalan Tong Sang to the town centre.

It was reported that her bag contained RM800 and other important documents.

With the arrest, the police believed they have solved at least six cases including snatch thefts, thefts, cable thefts and one case involving commercial crime here.

“If you see any suspicious activity, report it to the nearest police station,” Zulkipli called upon the public.
