SIBU, Oct 12: Police here scored a major success in the fight against drugs with the arrest of a 41-year-old man who was found with 1.5kg of drugs worth RM86,051 in his possession.
Speaking at a press conference today, Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect was detained during an inspection at about 1.35pm on Oct 10 at Jalan Pedada.
“The Narcotics Crime Investigation Division stopped a car driven by the suspect. As a result of the inspection, the police found 34 plastic packets of various sizes containing suspected methamphetamine-type crystals weighing 139.07g together with 150 Erimin pills with a gross weight of 41.78g,” he said.
The suspect then led the police team to a house at Jalan Tuah, where they seized more drugs, including 439 plastic packets containing 1,149g of suspected methamphetamine crystals, 13 transparent packets containing suspected Ketamine crystals (gross weight 73.71g), and 60 tablets of Erimin 5 (gross weight of 167.34g).
A car valued at around RM15,000 and cash worth RM6,600, believed to be the result of drug smuggling activities, were also seized.
A urine test conducted on the suspect found that he was positive for drugs.
Zulkipli said the suspect had been remanded for six days for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence by hanging if convicted.
In addition, the suspect is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of not more than RM5,000 or imprisonment for not more than two years or both, together with supervision for two years. — DayakDaily
