Sibu man who sent ex-girlfriend threatening WhatsApp voice message gets 6 months’ jail

SIBU (Oct 3): The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a 36-year-old man to six months in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal intimidation.

Sinti Anding was charged under Section 503 of the Penal Code and punishable under the second limb to Section 506 of the same Code, which provides for up to seven years in prison, or with a fine, or both upon conviction.

According to the charge, Sinti threatened to cause the death of his former girlfriend on Sept 28 at around 6am in a rented room of a house at Jalan Hoe Ping here.

Based on the facts of the case, the complainant received a threatening voice message in Iban from Sinti via WhatsApp saying: “Mati di negi. Pedis ndar aku meda dik nyak, kelalu dik, aku tok laki dik baka nama dik lari ke aku” (You will die later, I am so angry looking at you. I am your husband, why did you run away from me).

Sinti also damaged the complainant’s room door.

Following a police report, Sinti was arrested at 10.15am that same day at the Sibu Central police station.

Police also seized a screwdriver used to damage the door of the complainant’s room.

Magistrate Romario Jonoi presided over the case, while DPP Mohamad Amirul Hakim Mohamad Zamri handled the prosecution.

Sinti did not have legal representation.
