SIBU (Nov 19): Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie yesterday had the opportunity to meet the local community and leaders at a Meet-the-People session at Rumah Joseph Abet in Bawang Assan here yesterday.

Lau said it is imperative for him to establish a close cooperation with the local folks and community leaders, regardless of race and religion, in order for him to carry out his duties effectively.

“The community leaders are the closest to the people, and I can see that many of these leaders here are caring and have shown high commitment to their duties.

“Therefore, as a member of SRDC, I realise that to carry out my duties well, I also need to work more closely with all of you,” he told the community leaders at the Meet-the-People session.

Among the community leaders present at the event were Temenggong Stanley Gramong, Penghulu Dennis Ansam, Penghulu Paing Tawi, Penghulu Yong King Sung and Tuai Rumah Joseph Abet.

Adding on, Lau called on for everyone to work together with sincerity for a harmonious, united society.

“All of us play a crucial role to uphold and strengthen the spirit of unity in Sarawak in order for it to continue to progress and prosper,” he said.
