SIBU (Dec 5): The decorations on the six Christmas trees, each towering over the festive square at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1, are progressing well and on schedule for completion by or before Dec 10.

Event organising chairman Councillor Simon Wee said participants of the Christmas Tree Decoration Contest began decorating their assigned trees on Nov 25.

“Participants must complete their work by Dec 10, ahead of the lighting-up ceremony on Dec 12. Everything is progressing well so far, and I am confident they will finish on time,” he told The Borneo Post during a site inspection of the Christmas arch at the same venue on Thursday.

This year, only the champion will receive a prize.

Participants include Eco Green Electrical Sdn Bhd, JN_Littleshop, Kolej Laila Taib, Me Homeward Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Seni Bumi Contractor Sdn Bhd, and I-Concept Event Agency.

Entries will be judged on wow factor, design, day-and-night aesthetics, creativity, durability, and sustainability. Night judging will take place on Dec 15, and day judging on Dec 23.

On the arch installation, Wee said it is being put up to further enhance the festive ambience.

“The arch is being erected today (Dec 4) and, like the Christmas trees, must be completed by Dec 10 — in time for the lighting-up ceremony.”

He added that this year’s arch design differs from last year’s, saying: “In line with the theme ‘A Christmas in Borneo’, we have incorporated Borneo elements into the design.”
