SIBU (Feb 7): The Pusat Perkhidmatan Warga Emas (PPWE) spread festive cheer among the less fortunate ahead of Chinese New Year (CNY) through outreach visits to the Sibu Benevolent Society Nursing Home and the Sibu Methodist Children’s Home on Friday.
PPWE chairman Simon Wong Ing Hoo said the initiative reflected the true spirit of the festive season by sharing blessings with all segments of society.
“Festive celebrations carry greater meaning when we reach out to those in need, especially through the involvement of our senior members in giving back to the community,” he said.
Simon added that the visits were conducted under the Citra Minda programme, approved by the Sibu Social Welfare Department, and formed part of the Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development’s ‘Love Action’ initiative.
During the visit to the nursing home, PPWE representatives distributed Chinese New Year gifts and daily necessities to residents.
Meanwhile, a separate visit to the Methodist Children’s Home saw children receiving festive gifts and enjoying warm interactions with the visitors.
“The cheerful exchanges created a welcoming atmosphere, ensuring residents and children under institutional care could experience the joy and warmth of the festive season,” Simon said.
Sibu Benevolent Society Nursing Home administrator Eunice Ting Li Khing expressed appreciation to PPWE, noting that such visits help uplift residents’ spirits, particularly during major festive celebrations.
The Sibu Social Welfare Department also commended the centre’s proactive role in strengthening social support networks for vulnerable groups.
