SIBU (Dec 30): Members of the public are invited to join the year-end Sibu Countdown 2025―Towards 2026 Explore Sibu, Experience Malaysia, to be held from Dec 28 to 31 at the Azman Hashim Community Sport Centre, Sibu Jaya, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).

Organised by Jaycees International (JCI) Sibu, the People’s Progressive Party Dudong and Cohesion Prima Sdn Bhd, with support of the Pejabat Residen Bahagian Sibu, the four-day celebration aims to bring together families, youth and visitors through community activities, sport and non-stop entertainment.

PDP Dudong said in a statement that daily stage performances from Dec 28 to 31 will feature singing, dancing, cultural showcases, band performances, DJ segments and a magic show.

Among the highlights are the Poco Poco dance competition on Dec 28,  Pickleball Fun Game sessions from Dec 29 to 31, and the Grand Countdown and Firework show on Dec 31.

“Everyone is welcome and bring your family and friends, enjoy the festive atmosphere and be part of Sibu Jaya’s celebration as we gear up for VM2026,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Sempurai Gundai from Kapit emerged champion in the Battle of the Bands held at the same venue last weekend, taking homeRM5,000.

First runner-up Chromatic Octave from Sibu pocketed RM2,500, while second runner-up Silent Killer from Kuching won RM1,000.

The Battle of the Bands Showdown concluded with an electrifying night of live music, featuring emerging talent from across Sarawak as part of the Menuju 2026 – Explore Sibu, Experience Malaysia celebrations.

Bands from Sibu, Kuching, Kapit, Kanowit, and Sibu Jaya competed for a total prize pool of RM8,500, delivering performances showcased musical diversity and strong stage presence.

The strong response from both performers and the public reinforced Sibu Jaya’s growing role as a hub for live music, youth creativity and community-based tourism, supporting the momentum towards VM2026.

Separately, winners of the Esports Showdown were also announced, with 6BS ZETA clinching the title, followed by JUJUTSU ZERO and MPF REDZONE MLBB.

The eSports competition drew 190 gamers, who competed for a total prize of RM5,000.
