Sih Hua Tong ready to contest Batu Lintang seat again if given opportunity

KUCHING (Feb 1): Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Batu Lintang branch chairman Sih Hua Tong has expressed his readiness to contest the Batu Lintang seat again in the upcoming Sarawak state election, should he be given the opportunity.

Speaking at the SUPP Batu Lintang Branch 39th Anniversary Commemoration and Year of the Horse Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday night, Sih said he was prepared to continue shouldering the responsibility as long as he had the trust of the party and grassroots.

“So today, I solemnly say to you, as long as the party and the grassroots move in the same direction, as long as there is need, as long as comrades trust me and the grassroots recognise me, I, Sih Hua Tong, am willing to continue shouldering this responsibility.

“I can promise you this: I will not betray your trust, I will not retreat, and I will not let you down. Together with my team, we will uphold this belief and deliver solid results worthy of the trust you have placed in us,” he said.

Sih reflected on his three previous electoral contests in Batu Lintang, noting that the narrowing margins — from over 8,000 votes to just 93 votes in the last state election — showed that the party was “already at the doorstep” of victory.

“This is not a ‘failure’ number. It proves that we are just one step away from achieving our goal,” he said, attributing the progress to collective grassroots efforts, party seniors’ guidance and unwavering support of supporters and friends.

Meanwhile, SUPP Batu Lintang branch secretary and event organising chairman Prof Dr Wang Yin Chai said that the branch had unanimously resolved, through democratic processes, to support Sih as the party’s sole candidate for the Batu Lintang constituency in the upcoming election.

“We are confident that, under the guidance of the central leadership—particularly our party president, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian—Sih’s tireless efforts, extensive service experience, strong grassroots support, and clear vision for regional development will enable us to unite the broadest possible support in Batu Lintang and earn the trust and confidence of voters,” said Wang.

He highlighted Sih’s long-standing service to the community, describing him as a grassroots-oriented leader who understands the needs and aspirations of Batu Lintang residents.

“Upholding SUPP’s people-centric service philosophy, he is pragmatic, diligent and dedicated, earning wide trust and respect from party members and the community,” he said.

Wang added that the committee firmly believes Sih is the most suitable candidate to represent SUPP in Batu Lintang state constituency under the leadership of the party’s central leadership, particularly Dr Sim.

“We are confident that with his extensive service experience, strong grassroots support and clear vision for development, Comrade See Hua Dong will be able to unite broad support in Batu Lintang and gain the trust of voters.

“We firmly believe that his successful election will add a valuable seat for SUPP in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, further strengthening efforts to advance development and prosperity in this region and throughout Sarawak,” he added.
