SIBU: The Sarawak Central Region Single Mothers Association (PITWITS) is on the verge of achieving its long-term goal of acquiring a new headquarters building.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek said the association has identified a piece of land and is currently awaiting approval from the Land and Survey Department.

In support of PITWITS, Chieng has penned a letter to the department, advocating the association’s cause and the realisation of its dream of erecting its own premises.

“So, hopefully with this (if approved), they will be able to self-sustain and then be able to generate more income for their activities.

“I also urge all single parents and single mothers to join these associations so that they can have a bigger bargaining power and can appeal for government help easily,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after handing over goodies bags to 57 PITWITS members in a brief ceremony organised by SEBERKAS Bukit Assek branch at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek Service Centre here last night (Nov 15).

PITWITS is currently making use of the Public Works Department (JKR) quarters in Jalan Upper Lanang.

Previously, it was reported that the association needed  a new headquarters due to the unsatisfactory condition of the current place, which is slightly rundown.

The association had done some maintenance previously but needs more funds for further maintenance.

Therefore, in the long term, the association feels that it is better for it to have a building of its own.

Since last year, the association has requested a piece of land to raise funds to build its own building.
