KUCHING: The valuation procedures for assessment rates will be standardised across all local authorities in Sarawak using a newly-updated manual, says the state's Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister.
Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said the existing valuation and assessment manuals had been combined and updated to streamline and improve the procedures.
"The manual will be used to standardise and harmonise your procedures throughout the state, regardless of whether you are a city council or a smaller district council.
"I hope that with this manual, there will be no complaints or comparisons why one council does things differently from another.
"We will all be guided by just one set of guidelines applicable across the board," he said when launching the updated manual here on Tuesday (Jan 23).
Dr Penguang said the manual should be improved from time to time to ensure that it stayed relevant.
He said it should also be updated to be in line with the state's post-Covid-19 development strategy, particularly in digitalisation.
"Don't forget to improve the system to incorporate modern technology," he said.
A task force from the ministry and local authorities began the process of updating the manual last year.
The Lundu District Council was appointed as the secretariat to hold a series of workshops involving all local authorities in the process.
