KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1: Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Chung Hua Betong is opening a new door to technology for rural pupils by becoming Sarawak’s first school to implement an artificial intelligence (AI) Classroom, giving them first-hand exposure to AI-powered learning.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said one of the school’s classrooms was being transformed under Samsung Malaysia’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative into Sarawak’s first AI Classroom, making it one of only three such facilities in Malaysia.

In a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), he said the initiative would give rural pupils another avenue to learn through the latest technology.

“This provides rural children with another opportunity to learn using the latest methods and technologies.

“We hope this can serve as a model and be expanded to other areas and schools across Sarawak,” he said during a technology benchmarking visit to Samsung Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (Sept 30).

Gerald said the facility was expected to be used by Year Three pupils and above, giving them early exposure to technology and AI applications as part of their learning.

He said such exposure would help build a strong learning foundation for pupils as they continued their education in an increasingly technology-driven environment.

Meanwhile, Gerald also expressed appreciation to Samsung Malaysia for implementing the initiative through its CSR programme.

Also present were Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development permanent secretary Dzulkornain Masron, Sarawak Sports Corporation chief executive officer and Sarawak Sports Council director Mu’azamir Jili, Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, Samsung Malaysia chief operating officer Gabzel Kim, Mobile Experience (MX) head Jack Lim, Display Solutions head Wong Chung Hau, Air Conditioner division head Chew, and senior air-conditioning manager Vincent Looi. — DayakDaily
