KUCHING, March 12: The Sarawak government will distribute the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance or Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak (SKAS) in three phases this year, beginning on March 10, followed by May 15 and Nov 10.
The financial aid programme provides assistance through digital vouchers credited via the SPay Global e-wallet, enabling recipients to buy basic necessities and essential food items.
According to a document on frequently asked questions distributed to media organisations, the distribution will take place once every four months, with recipients receiving varying amounts depending on their eligibility category.
A guide to activate SPay Global account for SKAS aid to be credited.Under the programme, households earning RM5,000 and below will receive a total of RM950, disbursed as RM316 in March, RM316 in May and RM318 in November.
Senior citizens with income of RM5,000 and below will receive RM500, with RM166 credited in March, RM166 in May and RM168 in November.
Single individuals earning RM2,500 and below will receive RM300, distributed equally at RM100 per phase.
The assistance is aimed at easing the burden of rising living costs among low-income groups in Sarawak by helping them purchase basic food items.
Eligible recipients include Sarawak-born individuals holding the “K” identification code and residing in Sarawak, with eligibility determined based on data from Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) Phase 1/2026.
Recipients can check their eligibility through the official website at sarawak.gov.my/skas, while those with an active SPay Global account only need to click the “Acknowledge Now” button in the application for the aid to be credited.
Those who do not yet have the e-wallet must first download the SPay Global application and complete the registration process.
Those eligible for SKAS can access the Aid Wallet on SPay Global app by clicking on the State Crest icon.Those who meet eligibility criteria and have been approved of any government financial assistance will be able to access the Aid Wallet feature on the SPay Global app. The Aid Wallet icon can be found on the home screen which is represented with a hornbill icon (State Crest).
The SKAS programme categorises recipients into three groups, namely households, single individuals and senior citizens, based on income level, marital status and age.
Eligible SKAS recipients must acknowledge their claim before mid-December 2026. — DayakDaily
