Slovakia eyes cooperation with Sarawak in water, waste management and AI

KUCHING (Sept 24): Slovakia is exploring cooperation with Sarawak in water and flood management, waste management, recycling and environmental technologies as well as artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.

Slovak Ambassador to Malaysia Peter Spišiak said his country had companies with expertise and technologies that could potentially support Sarawak in these areas.

“Slovakia can offer our expertise and technologies to our Sarawakian friends, especially in the area of water management, flood management, waste management, recycling and environmental technologies, but also AI solutions,” he said.

He was met by the press after paying a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here yesterday.

Spišiak said Abang Johari had also identified road management as another potential area of cooperation.

He said several Slovak companies could work with Sarawak in the identified sectors.

As a follow-up to the meeting, Spišiak said the Slovak Embassy would organise an online presentation involving Slovak companies and the Sarawak business community.

The initiative would be carried out in cooperation with the Sarawak Business Federation (SBF), as well as relevant ministries and departments of the Sarawak Government.

Spišiak said the visit was his fourth to Sarawak, having previously visited Kuching privately, paid a courtesy call on the Sarawak Governor and attended the Malaysia Day celebrations here last week.

He said he was looking forward to expanding cooperation with Sarawak in various other areas.

Spišiak also highlighted Sarawak’s multicultural character as one of the state’s strengths, describing it as an important advantage for Malaysian society and the economy.

“I like Sarawak and Kuching. You are really living in a very beautiful country, and I would like to also stress one thing — one big advantage of Malaysia, and especially in Sarawak, is your multicultural character,” he said.

He also noted the role of the Catholic Church in Sarawakian society, particularly its contribution to the state’s education system.

Spišiak said he looked forward to further cooperation with Sarawak across various sectors.
