ADVERTISE HERE

Irene Wong
SIBU (Jan 3): Irene Wong, special assistant to Sibu MP Oscar Ling, has called on the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) to install warning posts and lights at a newly built concrete divider in front of the Sibu Central Market.
This follows two separate incidents on Dec 31, where two vehicles collided with the divider on a single day.
“The divider is a newly constructed structure completed this year, and for road users who are unfamiliar with the route – particularly out-of-town drivers – its presence may not be easily noticed in advance,” she said in a statement.
Wong pointed out that although the black-and-white divider has improved traffic flow, its visibility – especially for unfamiliar or out-of-town drivers – needs enhancement.
“Observations found that the location is not equipped with any clear warning signs or warning facilities,” she noted.
“During night time or rain, reduced visibility can lead to misjudgment by drivers, resulting in accidents.”
To prevent further incidents, Wong proposed that SMC place yellow warning posts more than 10 metres before the divider, and consider adding warning lights or advance signage to improve road visibility.
She expressed hope that the authorities would act promptly to implement these improvements and ensure the safety of all road users.
