KUCHING, Feb 15: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has called on residents to use Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) bins responsibly following incidents of improper waste disposal at several locations across the city.
In a press release, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said RoRo bins have been deployed at selected locations to facilitate residents in disposing of bulky waste in conjunction with Chinese New Year cleaning activities.
Wee said that the council has also carried out immediate clean-up works at several RoRo sites after rubbish was found scattered outside the containers.
He stressed that the RoRo bins are provided for public convenience and must be used responsibly. Improper disposal practices, including throwing waste outside the containers or rummaging through discarded items, create an eyesore and may lead to unhygienic conditions and the spread of disease.
“It is disheartening to see waste intentionally left outside the containers when proper facilities have been provided.
“As we prepare to celebrate, let us also take responsibility to keep our city clean, orderly and healthy for all,” he said.
Therefore, he called on residents to ensure that all waste is placed properly inside the designated containers and to cooperate with the council in upholding cleanliness throughout Kuching South.
“Through shared responsibility and community cooperation, MBKS hopes to ensure that the festive season is celebrated in a clean, healthy, vibrant, and safe city,” he said. — DayakDaily
