Start-ups play critical role in 2030 vision

KUCHING: Sarawak aspires to establish itself as a global innovation cluster by 2030, leveraging excellence in research and commercialisation to drive economic growth.

According to Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah, start-ups play a critical role in this vision.

“They are the engines of growth, driving technological advancement and creating jobs. We are committed to supporting the growth of the start-up ecosystem in Sarawak through strategic investments, infrastructure development, and regulatory support.”

He said this when attending the SDEC Digital Village Accelerator (DiVA) 2024 Demo Day at TEGAS Digital Village here Tuesday.

“Our start-ups are uniquely positioned to address Sarawak’s specific challenges, such as rural development, sustainable agriculture, and environmental conservation.

“Their innovative solutions can significantly enhance the lives of our citizens and protect our precious natural heritage,” he said.

Sagah is confident the DiVA programme offers a significant opportunity for start-ups to grow and scale.

He pointed out that the programme empowers the next generation of entrepreneurs by providing resources, market access, and investment support through its six-month accelerator programme.

Therefore, he encouraged all start-ups to seize the opportunity and participate in the said programme.

“I believe that this Demo Day will offer significant insights to all participants and serve as a platform for our start-up to discover fresh opportunities for their next adventure in the commercialisation journey.

“I urge active involvement and the sharing of opinions and expertise to ensure that everyone departs with enriched perspectives and practical strategies,” he said.
