KUCHING (July 11): Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (Statos) hosted a ‘Singapore-Sarawak Travel Connect 2024’ networking session cum lunch reception for some 80 participants from the two regions here on Wednesday.

Statos in a statement said the event had gathered 15 Singaporean delegates from both established and new travel agencies, alongside representatives from Singapore University of Social Sciences and James Cook University.

Industry leaders and tourism professionals from both regions also joined in the event, demonstrating their commitment to fostering tourism growth and collaboration.

The networking lunch commenced with welcoming remarks by Statos CEOr Chew Chang Guan, who highlighted the office’s achievements over the past five years and its dedication to promoting Sarawak as a premier tourism destination.

“This event not only marks a significant milestone for our office but also reinforces our commitment to strengthening ties between Singapore and Sarawak through impactful tourism collaborations,” said Chew.

This year’s fifth anniversary celebration was marked with a familiarisation trip where the Singaporean delegates were brought on a trip to experience Sarawak’s adventure, nature, and cultural heritage.

The trip from July 9 to 15 included visits to the Sarawak Cultural Village and Borneo Cultures Museum here, as well as a tour around Miri’s vibrant cityscape and a visit to the magnificent caves of Mulu National Park.

Statos deputy CEO Putrie Rozana Soraya Saud said the trip not only raised awareness on Sarawak’s tourism potential but also strengthened efforts of both parties in driving sustainable and inclusive growth in tourism.

Statos, she added, is committed to promoting Sarawak’s diverse tourism offerings, while building partnerships with Singaporean institutions and enhancing visitor experiences through innovative tourism initiatives.
