BINTULU: Three local men were rescued after their boat was marooned on a beach at Similajau National Park, Jalan Kidurong yesterday (Jan 30).
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firemen from Kidurong fire station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 2.20 pm.
The incident happened when the fishing boat was unable to navigate through the estuary of Sungai Likau, about 90 metres from the beach.
Two of the boat skippers went down to set an anchor but were pushed ashore by strong waves.
The rescue team, assisted by Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) personnel, used ropes, life jackets and anchors to safely bring the stranded men to shore.
Once the trio were rescued, they also helped to move the stranded boat to the ABF beach fishing jetty.
The team ended the operation at 6 pm.
