Stray baby croc captured in Lawas residential area

MIRI (Dec 26): A baby crocodile that had strayed into a residential area in Kampung Baru in Sundar Lawas, was successfully captured by the Lawas District Civil Defence Force (APM) on Thursday night.

Lawas APM Lieutenant (PA) Maradona Tatah said the department received a call from residents at around 8.30pm after the reptile was spotted on a road near their homes.

A team was immediately dispatched to the location, about 29km from the Lawas District Operations Control Centre.

“The reptile is believed to have accidentally strayed into the area before being discovered by residents.

“Upon arrival, the team found the baby crocodile beside a resident’s house. Posing a potential threat to the safety of the local community,” he said in a statement.

Maradona added that the operation team successfully captured the reptile using a safe and controlled snaring technique.
