MIRI (Feb 19): Miri MP Chiew Choon Man has expressed heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming response from residents at the Miri Parliamentary Chinese New Year (CNY) open house held at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club on Wednesday.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, said such gatherings provide an excellent platform to strengthen ties, foster mutual understanding and bring leaders closer to the people.

More than 2,000 visitors from various races and religions attended the event, which was held from 5pm to 8pm.

“This turnout proves that the spirit of unity among the multi-racial and multi-religious community in this city remains strong,” he told reporters when met during the open house.

The celebration was enlivened by lion dance performances and cultural dances representing various ethnic communities.

Commenting on tourism development plans for Miri, Chiew said engagement sessions would be conducted with all relevant stakeholders before any official announcements are made.

Also present were Deputy Foreign Minister and Sibuti MP Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni, and Pakatan Harapan Sarawak secretary Alan Ling.
