MIRI (Aug 19): The Malaysia Games (Sukma) Carnival has been attracting huge crowds to the event’s site, which is the parking lot at Miri Stadium, since its opening Saturday night.

Yesterday, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat declared open the festival, featuring 58 booths managed by local entrepreneurs, selling food, drinks and a myriad of handicraft items.

Running until Aug 24, the carnival is an initiative by Minister of International trade, Industry, and Investment Sarawak (Mintred), and supported by Miri Resident’s Office.

In conjunction with the 21st Sukma (Sukma XXI), the Ministry of Youth Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (Mysed) had collaborated with Miri Resident’s Office to hold three exciting events: ‘Youth Sports Talents’, ‘Fun Dance & Pocothon Competition’, and ‘Mega Zumba Sukma’.

The Youth Sports Talent kicked off on Saturday, and it received overwhelming response from the local community.

The ‘Fun Dance & Pocothon’ will be staged this Thursday (Aug 22), commencing at 10am, while the ‘Mega Zumba Sukma’ will take place on Friday (Aug 23), also kicking off at 10am.

Registrations for these two programmes are still open.
