BINTULU (Aug 18): A tough challenge awaits Sarawakian Mohammad Izzat Zulfaqar Hazrid in today’s muaythai semifinal.

He will face off against national star fighter from Terengganu, Ahmad Nor Iman Aliff Rakib, in the men’s 60-63.5kg category. This high-stakes match will be the penultimate bout of the day.

Two other sensational fighters from Sarawak, Muhammad Mikail Ghazali Zulfikar (Miki) and Texas Jeremy Lo, are also expected to thrill the crowd at the Naim Bintulu Paragon Street Mall.

Miki will face Tengku Muhamad Adam Fakruzie Tengku Mohamad Ismail from Terengganu in the men’s 51-54kg category while Texas Jeremy, known for his record-breaking five-second knockout yesterday, will clash with Sharil Aiman Abu Hanipah from Selangor in the men’s 54-57kg category.

Three more Sarawak fighters vying for their spots in the finals are Maurien Hii Sie Lin, who will meet Melaka’s athlete Zuhrotunnisak Mohd Masdar (women’s 48-51kg); Cherilynn Christalle Qi Q Chan against Noor Shafnieyza Syaherah Mohd Hariman from Kelantan (women’s 51-54kg); and Azhad Haziq Syafaat Abdul Khalid against Azharul Haqimie Nor Azman from Johor (men’s 67-71kg).

A total of 28 semifinal bouts will take place starting at 2pm today.

The finals for the waikru and mai muay events are scheduled for Aug 19, while the combat category finals will take place on Aug 20.
