KUCHING (Aug 17): Sarawak boxer Marcos Robert had no trouble advancing to the quarterfinals in the men’s Light Middleweight 67 kg – 71 kg category after easily defeating Federal Territories’ representative Jimey Kilah 5-0 in a three-round bout.

Joining Robert in the quarterfinals in the same category is Johor’s Azib Zafran Zolkarnain, who had to work harder against Winson Saulus from Perlis before winning with a 4-1 score.

Meanwhile, in the men’s Light Welterweight 60 kg – 63.5 kg category, Muhammad Niyaz Wafie Khairil Anuar from Penang couldn’t match the agility of Sabah’s Danial Wahyu and had to accept a 0-5 defeat.

In the Flyweight 48 kg – 51 kg category, Megat Muhammad Irfan from Perak and Penang’s Pavithran Rajini Kanth both advanced to the quarterfinals without any trouble, defeating their respective opponents with 5-0 scores.

Muhammad Irfan defeated Muhammad Yassin Lesar from Melaka, while Pavithran Rajini Kanth easily overcame Johor’s Ahmad Danish Mohamed Nasir.

The quarterfinal bouts for all three boxing categories will take place this Monday.

A total of 15 gold medals are up for grabs in boxing, with all matches being held at the Indoor Stadium of the Sri Aman Sports Complex here, starting yesterday until August 23. – Bernama
