SUKMA taekwondo gold medallist sets sights on SEA Games

KUCHING: Sarawak taekwondo athlete and SUKMA 2024 gold medallist Randy Owen Augustine Linggi is looking to represent Malaysia in the upcoming SEA Games.

The 19-year-old, who clinched three gold medals and one silver in SUKMA said in the meantime, he is planning to pursue his studies in sports science and improve his skills as an athlete.

“This would be my last event for the time being, as for the incentives that I will receive, it will go towards my studies and to my family.

“I am also wishing to participate in the upcoming SEA Games 2027, considering that I am part of the national team, but still under the training programme,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after receiving the gold medal for the Freestyle Poomsae Male team category at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya here on Saturday (August 18).

Meanwhile, fellow gold medallist for Freestyle Poomsae Male team category Fedealis Kom expressed gratitude to his trainers.

“I would like to thank Sarawak Taekwondo Association president Azizul Annuar Adenan, our coaches and the Sarawak Sports Council.

“I think our performance throughout this competition has been very good. We worked hard for it, practiced every single day for the past six months, and it is all worth it at the end,” he added.
