BINTULU (Aug 13): The state’s sepak takraw athletes, together with their coaches and other officials, were treated to a special dinner at a restaurant here last weekend.
Hosted by Sarawak Sepak Takraw Association, the gathering was also attended by Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee.
It was meant to boost the athletes’ morale ahead of the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI), of which the opening ceremony would kick off this Saturday.
Iskandar, also Assistant Chef de Mission for the Sarawak contingent, gave words of encouragement to the takraw squad in his opening remarks.
Meanwhile, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus had welcomed all the sepak takraw players, coaches and officials from the participating Sukma XXI contingents, at the campus’ sports village.
This edition of the Games, to run until this Aug 24, will host 373 athletes, coaches and accompanying officials from all over Malaysia, and also Brunei.
Bintulu is designated hosting division for sepak takraw, where 80 volunteers are ready to assist the participating teams from all Malaysian states and also the Federal Territories.
The sepak takraw matches will take place at Stadium Muhibah Bintulu, commencing tomorrow (Aug 14) and ending on Aug 23.
The first sepak takraw squad registered at Sri Rajang College of UPMKB was from Sabah, who arrived here Sunday.
