KUCHING, Dec 27: The Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) has provided 209 housing units under the first phase of its Sungai Bedaun housing project, with nearly 60 per cent of the units already occupied by additional heads of households from the Darul Hana project.

LCDA senior corporate manager Saiful Bahari Amra Ramly said the remaining units under Phase 1 are expected to be occupied by eligible additional heads of households from Darul Hana by early next year.

“For Sungai Bedaun, we have prepared 209 units for Phase 1.

“Phase 2 is planned to start next year, subject to conditions, and will involve another 208 units,” he told reporters during a doorstep interview after officiating LCDA’s bowling tournament with media held at Megalanes Sarawak here today.

He added that construction for Phase 2 is expected to begin in 2026.

Saiful Bahari further said LCDA is planning and implementing several other housing projects across Sarawak as part of efforts to support the Sarawak government’s affordable housing agenda.

Among the locations are Padang Kerbau in Miri, as well as Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) projects in Gedong and Sebuyau, which are currently under implementation.

Similar housing projects are also planned for Lawas.

“We expect that next year, some of these projects will see houses completed and ready for occupation,” he said.

According to him, these initiatives are aimed at helping families who do not yet own homes, through affordable housing supported by government assistance.

He stressed that LCDA works closely with several agencies, including the Land and Survey Department, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Mutiara Mortgage Sdn Bhd, to ensure the delivery of well-planned housing equipped with proper utilities and infrastructure.

“At LCDA, we are able to respond to the government’s call to provide housing partly because we have our own Industrialised Building System (IBS) factory.

“With this capability, God willing, we can deliver housing within the timelines set by the government,” he emphasised.

Earlier, Puncak Borneo Development Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Zuraimy Kusyaili presented prizes to the winners of the bowling tournament held in conjunction with the event.

Speaking to reporters, Zuraimy said the programme was organised to strengthen cooperation and close ties between agencies and media practitioners, particularly in ensuring accurate and responsible dissemination of information.

“As we all know, information now moves very fast. Sometimes, even before a press release is issued, the information is already circulating.

“What is important to us is strong and close cooperation with our media partners so that the information conveyed is accurate and achieves its intended objectives,” he said. — DayakDaily
