The completed Sungai Krian Bridge, connecting Pusa and Sesang.By DayakDaily Team
BETONG, March 11: Residents in the Betong Division will soon enjoy improved connectivity and smoother travel when the Sungai Krian Bridge opens to the public on March 18, just ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
In a post shared on its social media, Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak said the opening marks another significant milestone in Sarawak’s infrastructure development, bringing renewed hope and convenience to communities in the area.
The new bridge not only enhances transportation links but is also seen as a meaningful Hari Raya gift for local residents, who will soon benefit from faster, safer, and more comfortable journeys between towns and villages.
Beyond improving mobility, the facility is expected to stimulate economic activities and strengthen connections among communities in the surrounding areas, particularly between Pusa and Sesang.
Costing RM1.25 million, the project establishes a crucial road link between the two areas through a two-lane single carriageway. The development includes approach roads measuring 290 metres on the Pusa side and 976 metres on the Sesang side, built according to the Public Works Department’s (JKR) R3 road standard.
The bridge itself spans 690 metres in length and is eight metres wide. It consists of three-span balanced cantilever box girders and eight-span T-beam girders, constructed in accordance with the JKR R5 bridge standard to ensure durability and safety.
JKR Sarawak reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the State’s infrastructure network as part of ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity, support economic growth, and improve the well-being of the people across Sarawak. — DayakDaily
