MATU, April 28: The 17.6-kilometre Sungai Passin/Matu Road project, valued at RM77.8 million, has recorded strong progress of 76.18 per cent to date, placing it firmly on track for early completion ahead of its original schedule, around March next year.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo said the project’s current performance is highly encouraging and reflects smooth implementation on the ground.
“Thus far, the project’s progress has been very good and is ahead of schedule. This is a positive achievement,” he said during a working visit to inspect the project’s progress on Monday (April 27).
He said approximately eight kilometres of the road alignment have been completed with the road base layer, while the remaining construction works are currently in progress.
The road project is one of the key initiatives aimed at strengthening rural connectivity, particularly in the Matu area and its surrounding regions.
In the meantime, he emphasised that continuous monitoring will be implemented to ensure the project proceeds smoothly and is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
“We will continue to conduct on-site visits to monitor the progress of the project even though it is currently on a good track,” he said.
Meanwhile, Daro assemblyman Dr Safiee Ahmad said the area involving seven longhouses still relies fully on water transport.
He said the construction of the road will improve connectivity for residents while also facilitating the implementation of the approved Rural Electrification Scheme (RES) project.
“When this road is completed, it will not only improve accessibility for residents but also accelerate the implementation of various other development projects,” he said.
He nevertheless advised residents to refrain from using the road at this time due to safety concerns, while expressing hope that the project will be completed ahead of schedule for the benefit of the local community. — DayakDaily
