BINTULU (Feb 10): The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bintulu branch will hold its annual Chinese New Year open house at the Bintulu Civic Centre on Feb 22.

The event, scheduled from 10am to 1pm on the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, is expected to draw members of the public from all walks of life to celebrate the Year of the Horse in a spirit of unity and harmony.

Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming said the open house is a meaningful yearly tradition that brings the community together to foster closer ties and strengthen mutual understanding among the various races in Bintulu.

“We warmly invite everyone to join us with your families and friends as we celebrate this joyous occasion together,” he said.

The event will be graced by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister, as the guest of honour.

Guests can look forward to a variety of festive delicacies, a lion dance performance and cultural shows featuring local singers and dancers.

Pang said the programme also serves as a platform to showcase and support local artistic talent, contributing to the continued growth of Bintulu’s cultural scene.

“In view of the event coinciding with the fasting month, bubur lambuk will be prepared for Muslim guests to take away for their breaking of fast,” he said.

Chinese New Year, he added, is a time for reunion, unity and new beginnings, and the celebration is open to all communities.
