MIRI, March 17: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department Sarawak has arrested an individual and seized 24.486 kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM783,552, at Miri Airport.

In a TVS news, Sarawak Customs director Datuk Norizan Yahya said the suspect was apprehended by enforcement officers from Miri department on Feb 27 at 5.15pm upon arrival from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

“An inspection of the suspect’s luggage uncovered 21 yellow Chinese tea packets and three blue mangosteen product packets containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with caning, upon conviction,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the department welcomes public cooperation in providing information on smuggling activities to help curb such crimes. — DayakDaily
